The Celestial Venerable of the Tenuity is a highly significant deity in Dao cosmology. He is the Deity of Karma at the Divine Altar and primarily identified with Polaris (the North Star), specifically the stars within the Purple Forbidden Enclosure, which is considered the celestial equivalent of the imperial palace and the dwelling of the Jade Emperor. The Celestial Venerable of the Tenuity is one of the Four Imperial Sovereigns who assist the Jade Emperor in governing the heavens and the earthly realm. He is the Emperor of the Northern Sky, holding immense power over the stars, celestial phenomena, and the movements of the universe. He also possesses authority over human destiny, particularly concerning social status, wealth, and official positions. Often depicted in imperial robes and representing the cosmic north, the Celestial Venerable of the Tenuity embodies supreme dignity, stability, and control. Devotees pray to him for prosperity, success in careers, and protection from negative influences, recognising his pivotal role in maintaining cosmic order and the fates of all beings.
