Spiritual cultivation in the 21st century should begin with the self, the key lies in cultivating oneself well. Its core principles can be summarized as: Valuing morality, Practicing inner purity, Living in harmony with nature, and Achieving spiritual wholeness. The practice follows a natural method, refining the body, mind, and spirit in accordance with the natural flow of life. Through constant reflection, awareness, and practice in daily life, one can awaken and grow from within.
The mortal world is a field of spiritual cultivation established by the Divine. Regardless of their essences, all spirits are given an “exam script” by Divinity upon their birth in the mortal realm. The test script varies depending on the spiritual essence, and can include topics such as: "roles and responsibilities", “spiritual understanding”, "faith", “relationships", “Karma", "temptations", “spiritual cultivation“, etc.
The ultimate goal of cultivation is the spiritual integration and unification of the soul, to reach a state of spiritual enlightenment. Attaining "enlightenment" or "understanding the Dao" means surpassing the trials by Divinity and ascending to a higher spiritual understanding or realisation. Through cultivation, attainment, and propagation of spiritual faith, one can attain Enlightenment. The ultimate goal of spiritual cultivation is to ascend to the Creator’s Realm, a realm beyond the universe.
"Wu Ji" refers to the primordial energy that existed before the formation of the universe, known as Qi (炁), which is also understood as the Tao (道), the source of all existence, or what is called "The Creator" (无极至尊). It is formless and invisible, soundless and colorless, without beginning and without end. hence the name "Wu Ji" (literally: Limitless or Without Extremes). From the Supreme Wu Ji emerged the Three Pure Ones (San Qing Dao Zu 三清道祖): Yuan Shi Tian Zun (元始天尊), Ling Bao Tian Zun (灵宝天尊), and Dao De Tian Zun (道德天尊).
These Three Pure Ones then brought forth other high celestial beings: Yu Huang Tian Zun (玉皇天尊, Jade Emperor), Da Ri Ru Lai Fo Zu (大日如来佛祖, Vairocana Buddha), Nan Dou Tian Zun (南斗天尊, Southern Dipper Deity), and Bei Dou Tian Zun (北斗天尊, Northern Dipper Deity). These seven divine figures are collectively known as the Primordial Wu Ji Deities The universe originated from the Supreme Wu Ji, and its operations are carried out by the Three Pure Ones.
After the beginning of the universe, the Three Pure Ones infused it with Primordial Chaos Energy "Chaos" refers to the undifferentiated and unordered state before Heaven and Earth were formed. In this stage, ancient deities like Pangu, Tai Ji (Supreme Ultimate), Tai Yin (Moon Principle), and Tai Yang (Sun Principle) emerged. Dao De Tian Zun infused energy into the chaotic primordial Qi, generating the Yin and Yang duality. This reflects the idea of dualism within unity, e.g., presence/absence, sun/moon, beginning/end, etc. From this duality came the myriad things of the universe. This is the meaning of: "The Dao gives birth to One; One gives birth to Two; Two gives birth to Three; Three gives birth to all things." It describes how the Dao manifests into all things. With the presence of Yin and Yang, the Heavenly Realm came into being, governed by the Jade Emperor. With the Heavenly Realm came Heavenly Principles, the natural order and laws of the universe, executed by the Southern and Northern Dipper Deities. Nan Dou Tian Zun governs life and the Yang aspect. Bei Dou Tian Zun governs death and the Yin aspect. With Heavenly Principles established, Truth came into being, taught by Da Ri Rulai Fo Zu (Vairocana Buddha). Concepts like karma, reincarnation, attaining enlightenment, and achieving spiritual fruition are all aspects of this Truth. Lord Nalakuvara (哪吒三太子), although a deity of the later heavens, was honored as Tai Zi Tian Zun (太子天尊) due to his great merit. He became a pioneer of the Wu Ji Realm, assisting the Jade Emperor as the Supreme Commander of the Celestial Army, leading heavenly soldiers in the task of guiding and transforming sentient beings.
The collective divine beings of the Wu Ji Realm are known as the Spiritual Realm (灵界), which holds dominion over the universe. The Mortal World (凡间) is a realm created by the Spiritual Realm as a training ground for souls (灵) to grow and cultivate themselves. Every soul, regardless of its spiritual level, carries a divine "exam paper" issued by the Spiritual Realm. The "test questions" differ depending on one's spiritual makeup: including roles and responsibilities, beliefs, concepts, family, relationships, interpersonal challenges, karma, trials, cultivation, etc. Achieving awakening, understanding the Tao, and passing the tests of the Spiritual Realm lead to spiritual elevation. To cultivate the Tao, attain the Tao, and spread the Tao is to ultimately achieve spiritual fruition. The final destination of cultivation is the Wu Ji Realm, which lies beyond the universe.
Since the universe had a beginning, it will also have an end. One day, the Supreme Wu Ji may choose to retract the universe. At that time, any soul that has not ascended to the Wu Ji Realm will return to nothingness. As with all things: What has a beginning must also have an end.
Humans are a combination of “spirit” and “body”: the body is temporary, but the spirit is eternal and indestructible. When the body dies, the spirit leaves the body and returns to the spiritual realm, or it may reincarnate into another physical body and be born again as a human. In other words, each time we are reborn into the mortal world, it is the same spirit, only housed in a new body, living in a new era, place, and environment, with a new life. The spirit is a form of energy or magnetic field: it cannot be seen or touched, but it can be sensed. However, because the magnetic fields of our spirit and body are not aligned, and our minds are filled with too many distractions to be still, the spirit and body often cannot communicate, and we fail to perceive the existence of our spirit.
The wisdom of ancient people is often reflected in language, for instance, the word “soul” (灵魂). This refers to the combination of “spirit” (灵) and “soul” (魂), two different aspects. The spirit is eternal and thus often referred to as “divine spirit” (神灵), while the soul refers to the components of consciousness, “three souls and seven spirits” (三魂七魄), which belong to the body and are therefore temporary. After physical death, the “seven spirits” (七魄) perish along with the body, but the “three souls” (天魂, 地魂, 人魂, heavenly, earthly, and human soul) remain in the mortal world and become what is commonly referred to as “ghosts.” When we worship our ancestors, we are mainly paying respects to these ancestral spirits. If the spirits of the ancestors have no place to rest, they may become wandering “lost souls” or “ghosts without a home.”
Simply put, the existence of the spirit is what allows for the cycle of reincarnation and the concepts of “past lives” and “this life.” Because of this, the thoughts and feelings accumulated through one’s actions over many lifetimes shape the karma of this current life. Thus, the direction of one’s current life, such as health, career, family, and marriage, is intimately connected with that accumulated karma. Every person has a spirit, and regardless of the type, each has karmic ties from past lives.
When it comes to the idea of “reincarnation,” some people find it difficult to imagine, while others may immediately reject it. But we should honestly ask ourselves: Do we even remember what we did a week, a month, or a year ago? If the answer is “no,” then how can we expect to remember what we did in a past life? And how can we deny the concept of reincarnation, and thereby deny the existence of the spirit? Think about it: do you even remember what you had for lunch last week? If your answer is “I forgot,” then given how forgetful we are, how can we be so sure as to deny reincarnation?
The Continuity of the Spirit: The Thread of Karma
Everyone has past lives and karmic histories. These are the root causes that shape one’s destiny in the present life. Viewing destiny from the perspective of the spirit reveals hidden patterns behind life's challenges—such as karmic debts between spouses, children repaying or collecting from parents, or emotional entanglements. Beneath these visible surface issues lies a deeper karmic web.
In the mortal world, there are three types of spirits: “Innate Divine Spirits,” “Ordinary Spirits,” and “Animal Spirits.”
Those with innate divine spirits originated from deities and were sent into the mortal world with a heavenly mission or duty. Animal spirits that are reborn as humans, if they cultivate themselves well, may be promoted to the status of ordinary spirits in the next life. Likewise, ordinary spirits who cultivate themselves may one day be elevated to become divine spirits (post-heaven). On the other hand, if divine or ordinary spirits commit evil and act hypocritically in this life, they may be demoted to the status of animal spirits in the next life. Ordinary and animal spirits do not have designated guardian deities, but the gods and Buddhas are compassionate. If one chooses a deity, forms a bond, and worships with sincerity and dedication, one can usually receive divine protection.
The 21st and 22nd centuries are centuries of the “spirit”
Means that the destinies of mortals will follow the law of karma. Therefore, if one can understand the origin of their spirit, they can uncover their past lives and karma and more clearly understand their fate and life direction. Knowing where you come from and where you are going, only then can you truly take your future into your own hands.
A human being is a union of spirit and body. The body is temporary and will ultimately return to dust; the spirit, however, is eternal, it transcends time and space and exists forever.
When the body dies, the spirit departs, either returning to the spiritual realm or entering another body to be reborn again. In other words, each time we are born into this world, it is the same spirit, simply housed in a new body, living in a new era and environment, and experiencing a new destiny.
It is precisely because the spirit exists that reincarnation is possible, and the concepts of “past life” and “present life” hold meaning. As such, everything we do in each life, whether good or bad, accumulates as karma, which in turn shapes the conditions of our current life, including our health, career, relationships, and family life.
Everyone enters this life with a spirit, and regardless of what spiritual system it belongs to, each spirit carries karmic ties from past lives.
Do we really understand reincarnation?
When the topic of reincarnation arises, many people instinctively resist it or find it hard to believe. But let’s ask ourselves honestly: Do you remember what you had for lunch on a specific day last month?
Most people would say no. If we can’t even recall small things from just a few weeks ago, how can we expect to remember a past life? Forgetfulness is human nature, and this “forgetting” is part of the natural process of reincarnation. Not remembering a past life doesn’t mean it didn’t happen; being unable to recall it doesn’t mean the spirit never existed.
What is "karma across three lifetimes"?
People often assume that “three lifetimes of karma” refers to the past life, the current life, and the future life. But according to divine insight, this is not the case.
The “three lifetimes” refer to the two past lives that most significantly influence your present one. For example, if your 7th and 3rd previous lives contained key actions, emotions, or unresolved wishes, those lives may have a strong impact on your current experience. In such cases, divine beings may reveal the events of those two specific lifetimes to help you understand the root causes of your present circumstances.
This is the essence of three-lifetime karma, it not only reveals the chain of cause and effect behind your actions but also exposes the “emotional karma” the spirit has accumulated in the world: unresolved grief, guilt, attachment, and other lingering emotional imprints. These energies continue to influence your mental, emotional, and even physical state, as well as your destiny in this life.
The 21st Century: The Century of Karma
Since the year 2000, humanity has officially entered an era governed by karma. In this era, destiny is less and less shaped by traditional elements like feng shui, birth charts, or luck. Instead, it is increasingly shaped by the origin of the spirit, the clearing of karma, and the awakening of awareness. In this context, knowing where you come from and where you’re going becomes especially important.
If you can understand your spirit’s origin, where it comes from and what system it belongs to, you can gain clarity on the lessons from your past lives. Only then can you understand why you were born into this particular family, why you face certain challenges, and why you possess certain talents or recurring emotional patterns.
Destiny is not fixed, it can be understood and transformed
Karma is not punishment, it’s a reminder. Reincarnation is not fate, it’s an opportunity.
Only by recognizing your spirit can you begin to grasp the true flow of life.
Only by facing your karma across three lifetimes can you truly take control of your life’s direction.
A:
How to Grasp the True Meaning of Life and Transcend the Cycle of Reincarnation
Q: Is life ultimately “good” or “bad”?
A: Amitabha Buddha teaches that from the spiritual realm’s perspective, life is neither absolutely good nor bad, these are just superficial labels in the human world. If we live without seeking deeper meaning, merely pursuing material comfort or personal dreams, we are only ensuring our continuation in the cycle of reincarnation, not attaining true liberation from life and death.
Q: Does reincarnation truly exist?
A: Yes, reincarnation exists beyond belief or disbelief. Amitabha Buddha reveals that whether or not we are aware of it, reincarnation is a real law of life. It cannot be denied, just because someone has never heard of reincarnation doesn’t make it untrue. Reincarnation is not a matter of faith; it is a fundamental reality of existence.
Q: Why does reincarnation make people weary?
A: Reincarnation is like a journey repeated over and over: it may feel exciting at first, but repeated endlessly, it becomes exhausting. Each cycle resets us, learning, working, striving, yet never escaping the cycle of birth, aging, illness, and death. Without awakening, we remain lost in this cycle. Enlightenment is the only key to breaking free and entering the limitless realm.
Q: How can one escape the cycle of reincarnation?
A: Through spiritual cultivation and awakening. Only by discovering the true meaning of life and gaining insight through continuous realizations can we break the cycle and reach liberation and enlightenment.
Q: Why should one begin spiritual practice early in life?
A: Amitabha Buddha emphasizes that if young people recognize the reality of karma early, they have more time and opportunities to walk the path of awakening. Otherwise, a lifetime may pass in vain. Spiritual cultivation requires a strong intention—this inner drive propels us to seek the truth of life and transcend the limits of reincarnation.
Q: How can one avoid turning "enlightenment" into an attachment?
A: Spiritual practice is a double-edged sword. If enlightenment becomes a desire, excessive pursuit will only push it further away. The key is to approach the path with a calm mind, recognizing worldly temptations without being entangled by them. True wisdom lies in remaining inwardly detached even while engaging with worldly life.
Q: Why can excessive reliance on rituals or dogma hinder spiritual growth?
A: Rituals and doctrines are merely tools of practice. Overdependence on them traps the practitioner in external forms, distracting from true inner awakening. Clinging to form can create dependency and suppress independent thinking, preventing direct interaction with one’s divine guide or guardian deity. Amitabha Buddha advises practicing with flexibility, release fixation on forms to accelerate the path to enlightenment.
Q: How can one shorten the duration of reincarnation?
A: Amitabha Buddha teaches us to broaden our perspective, don’t limit yourself to your personal environment or domain. You don’t need to experience everything yourself. By observing others’ lives and reflecting on your own blind spots, you can quickly gain wisdom. Cultivation is built upon layers of realization. With wise practice, a karmic journey of 100 lifetimes can be shortened to just 20, bringing you closer to enlightenment.
Interacting with Your Divine Guide/ Guardian Deity
Direct interaction with your divine source or guardian deity is the fastest path to awakening. The method promoted by the "Wuji Divine Throne of Stillness" emphasizes exactly this approach.
Q: What are the key elements of spiritual practice?
A:
Intention-Driven: A strong desire to explore the meaning of life.
Wisdom-Guided: Avoid distractions and worldly temptations; observe and reflect.
Expanded Vision: Go beyond personal limitations, learn from diverse experiences.
Avoid Attachments: Let go of excessive reliance on rituals or doctrines; connect directly with your guiding deity.
Value Time: Life is finite, begin early, as aging may limit your physical and mental strength.
Q: How can modern technology help with rapid awakening?
A: Amitabha Buddha explains that 21st-century technology has reduced distances between people, giving us more opportunities to observe and learn from others. By seizing these opportunities, we can uncover our blind spots and accelerate spiritual growth. With mindful use of technology, we can greatly shorten the time needed to attain true realization.
Q: How does one ascend to the "Wuji Realm" (Limitless Realm)?
A: Ascending to the Wuji Realm is not difficult. The key lies in balancing 20% effort with 80% awakening. The 20% involves dedicated practice, developing wisdom and focus. The remaining 80% is awakening, accepting the existence of the Wuji Supreme (Limitless Supreme Being) and trusting in its guidance. Many believe in a concept of God, yet few truly trust that divine presence. To reach the Wuji Realm, faith and full acceptance of the Wuji Supreme are essential. As long as you don’t give up, you are already walking the path.
Q: Can reciting sutras help one reach the Western Pure Land?
A: The term “Western Pure Land” is a concept created by devotees. The purpose of chanting sutras is to calm the mind, not as a shortcut to enlightenment. True realization must be cultivated in this lifetime through awareness and awakening, not something to be attained after death. The goal of practice is to recognize the truth of life while alive, to break the cycle of rebirth, and step toward true awakening.
Q: Do divine beings accept vows made by devotees?
A: Yes, divine beings accept vows, but they must be made with great care.
Responsibility of Vows: Divine beings treat vows seriously. Once a vow is made, it must be fulfilled.
Revoking a Vow: If a change of heart occurs, the devotee must sincerely explain to the divine being and clearly express their new intention.
Q: Do the “Three Western Sages” actually exist?
A: The concept of the “Three Western Sages” is manmade; the spirit realm does not categorize in this way. However, Amitabha Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, and Medicine Buddha are indeed real beings within the spiritual dimension of the Buddha realm. Together, they guide sentient beings toward awakening.
When invoking the deities through the "Holy Cup" or other methods, the true key lies not in the ritual itself, but in understanding the core principles of this spiritual channel.
Effective communication between humans and deities must be built on two foundations: a true understanding of the law of cause and effect and the clarity of one’s karma.
If the heart is clouded by bias or an unwillingness to take responsibility, no matter how devout the ritual, it will be difficult to truly receive a divine response. Only through sincere self-reflection and honest confrontation of oneself can the light of divine guidance descend upon a ready spirit.
